Here we go again.
April 19, 2014

We had these 50 dollars.

On a whim, I ordered an 8″ Windows 8.1 tablet from Dell. No real reason, except I haven’t owned a (new) dedicated Windows computer in a long time. Every Windows computer I own that isn’t ancient is a laptop, and all of them dual-boot Linux. Since I use Linux basically full time, I only boot into Windows to install security updates. It’s more a nuisance than anything since it means I have to reboot. But hey, an eight-inch tablet for a few hundred bucks and I can see what this Windows 8 nonsense is all about. So I make the impulse buy and the day that it ships the price drops $50.

I’m at the point in my life where $50 no longer seems like a lot of money, but it also doesn’t seem as if it’s been very long since it WAS a lot of money. So I’m sort of pissed, but mostly just as a matter of principle? Anyway, I hope Dell will price match with itself, because this is going to annoy me way longer than it should. I know I could just order a second one at the lower price and return the first one, but that would require more than $50 worth of effort on my part, and I can’t justify doing that, even as a matter of principle.
