We have this Brexit solution

As of this post, the United Kingdom is about a month away from shitting itself. There are plenty of other resources you can explore that detail how things even got to this point and why it’s a bad situation all around. However, I haven’t seen anyone suggest one particular option which, to me, really ought to be on the table.

Every member of the armed forces in the Commonwealth, as far as I know, swears an oath of allegiance to a person. For comparison, the United States military swears its oaths of allegiance to the U.S. Constitution first and foremost. But the Canadian military swears its oaths to the Queen of Canada. The Australian military swears its oaths of allegiance to the Queen of Australia. New Zealand? Ditto. The UK? Of course. I didn’t check all the Commonwealth countries, but surely they all have the same deal going on.

The point is these are all the same person! Queen Elizabeth technically has the ability to disregard convention, tradition, the…uh, Magna Carta, I guess…or any of that jazz and just straight up command every one of these militaries to answer to her and her alone. Hey, they swore they would. "We’re bringing the Empire back, mates!" I imagine her saying.

All right, there’s probably one or two of you saying, "Yeah, but NATO…" or "Article 5 this," or "Article 5 that." But see, that’s the best part. The UK and Canada are part of NATO, and I don’t think NATO has ever worked out how Article 5 plays out if members go to war with other members and both sides invoke Article 5 against each other. So the way I see it, NATO as an entity is irrelevant in this scenario, and the U.S. sits this one out. Western Europe ain’t had a solid war with itself in decades, so it’s about due. I mean, they did spend thousands of years doing it constantly, so this extended peace is probably just a statistical anomaly.

I'm impressed she's holding her own umbrella.

Now, I can’t guarantee the combined might of the Commonwealth nations is enough to take on and conquer all of the EU countries, but there’s only one way to find out. Personally, I like Lizzie’s odds at coming out on top with the British Empire back in business as part of her legacy. And even if it all goes wrong, shit, it’s still probably better than a hard Brexit, right? Surely she’s not going to just watch from the sidelines as the United Kingdom screws itself.
