Huzzah, I have resurrected a dead XBox. Someone had plugged it into a 220 outlet without a transformer. I guessed that only the power supply was fried, and that the rest of the XBox itself would be okay.
As it turned out, that dead XBox got passed down to me, and I took the chance and ordered an aftermarket power supply for less than $30 (one with 110/220 switching capabilities). I figured even if it didn’t work, I could use it in my own XBox and still benefit from the dual-voltage perks.
Swapping out the power supplies was a piece of cake.
Anyway, it works fine.
And it has a Samsung DVD drive. And the DVD playback kit. Not a bad deal for $30.
You do have to open up the case and lift the hard drive caddy to reach the 110/220 switch, by the way.
For those of you keeping count, I now have three XBoxen, although I do only have two of them on hand.
And yeah, I know, the floor looks pretty ate up right now.
