That’s the lid sitting on top of a transformer in the back.
It’s basically a tiny crock pot that only knows one setting: FULL POWER.
Fortunately, full power is only 35 watts, so it’s good at heating up nacho cheese to warm, but not bubbling, temperatures.
It’s also a 110-volt-only device, but at least it only cost me three dollars.

I also discovered that my phone’s camera has a black and white mode. The resulting pictures are still 24-bit, though.
